Insurance producers who sell flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) are required under new law to complete 3 hours of enhanced flood insurance instruction in addition to the other standard requirements. This largely applies to property and casualty producers and those who offer all lines of insurance. The state prohibits this flood content from being included in any other package, so we are offering it as a standalone course for those it applies to.
In this course, we’ll cover the history of flood insurance and the need for the NFIP. Key legislation and the role of an insurance producer are discussed. Policies and products that may be sold are detailed, including property coverage and exclusions. Next is an overview of errors and omissions insurance. Ethical considerations and case law are touched on. Finally, we’ll walk the student through writing a flood insurance policy and what happens when a claim occurs.
