This is the 8 hour class that meets the mandatory education requirement to start selling Long Term Care Insurance in Texas, and gives you all of the education you need to get started!
The course begins with an introduction to long-term care. We answer the question, “what is long-term care?”, along with training on the settings for care, the cost of long-term care, who ultimately pays for long-term care, and who may need long-term care.
From there, we get into the different types of long-term care in Texas. In this section, we go over the history of long-term care insurance, including the NAIC Model LTCi Act, HIPAA, and the DRA. We also go over what it takes to build a long-term care policy, and the producer’s delivery responsibilities. We cover a series of topics on building the policy, including the elimination period, inflation protection, and optional features like nonforfeiture, shared care, and survivor benefits.
Next up is how long-term care policies work. Under this topic we cover a wealth of information, including how benefits are paid, what services are covered under the policy, and how much coverage is available. We also go over how to add new benefits, tax-qualified long-term care policies, and the free-look period.
Finally, our last portion of the course answers questions like, “does health affect ability to buy a policy,” and “how much do long-term care insurance policies cost?” We also provide brief training on Medicare and Medicaid and how they relate to long-term care insurance. To finish off the course, we take a look into the future of long-term care insurance.
Throughout the course are in-text questions, to test your knowledge as you go. At the end of the course is a 50-question final exam. Once you’re finished, you’ll have all the training you need to start selling long-term care insurance in Texas, all at your own pace!
