If you are an insurance producer who needs 12 hours of continuing education in order to renew your license, you have chosen the right course. This 12-hour continuing education course provides 12 of the 24 hours needed to renew licenses for multi-line and public property and casualty adjusters. The content in this course addresses multiple P&C topics, including in-depth discussions of assorted policies, their attributes and coverages, exclusions, conditions, and much more. The topics covered in this course include property and casualty basics, with an emphasis on terminology and how it’s applied to the contract. Continuing, the course covers personal and commercial automobile contracts, businessowner policies (BOPs), a thorough discussion of workers’ compensation contracts, and finishes with a deep dive into other coverages and options available in the market. To receive certification for the course, a 65-question final exam must be successfully completed. Note: this course does NOT include the three hours of ethics that are required of all licensees.
The course is divided into five separate lessons:
- Property and Casualty Basics: this lesson examines important basic concepts associated with P&C contracts, including indemnification, insurable interest concerns, underwriting, sources of information, credit reports, premiums, class and other rating methods, hazards, negligence, liability and loss issues, proximate versus actual cause, margin clauses, loss valuation, types of damages (general, special, compensatory and punitive), policy structures, no-fault benefits, endorsements, and more.
- Personal and Commercial Automobile Insurance: this section provides an in-depth discussion of both personal and commercial automobile coverage. Included in the lesson is material encompassing liability coverage, physical damage, exclusions and conditions, related terms and definitions, policy limit options, medical payments, supplementary coverages, selected endorsements, joint ownership, business versus commercial auto, commercial auto symbols and their uses, garage forms, the motor coverage and MCS-90 forms, trailer interchange contracts, sections of commercial auto policies, drive other car, coverage gaps, and coverage suspensions.
- Businessowner policies, or BOPs: this lesson details the characteristics and purpose of the contract, eligibility for coverage and acceptable risks, property coverages, glass coverage, exclusions and conditions of BOPs, limits of insurance and how to apply, seasonal increases (peak season), optional deductibles, loss valuation, vacancy, recovery of property, vacancy, bailee concerns, liability and medical expense coverage including related terms and definitions, exclusions and conditions, signs, building limit automatic increases, coverage extensions, coverage periods, outdoor property, personal effects, valuable papers and records, selected endorsements, changes, examination of books and records, other insurance, and potential for premium audits.
- Workers’ Compensation: This portion of the course provides an in-depth discussion of workers’ compensation insurance. The lesson contains generic information about workers’ compensation coverage, and describes the origins and modernization of the coverage, basic concepts and definitions, worker classifications and levels of disability, compulsory versus elective and monopolistic versus competitive coverage, self-insurance, “parts” of the policy (one through six), covered losses, exclusions and conditions, more than one policy in force, excluded and voluntary coverage categories, and the second injury fund.
- Other Coverages and Options: In this lesson, the material explores other coverages and options available in the marketplace, This section visits personal and commercial umbrella and excess liability policies, and related exclusions and conditions. The lesson continues with a look at specialty liability insurance, such as errors and omissions, professional liability, directors and officers, fiduciary and liquor liability, and employment practices liability (EPL). Continuing, the course describes surety, the parties to surety contracts and their roles, and the different types of bonds. Next up is a primer on flood insurance, including the requirements for agent training. Note–this course does NOT certify an agent to transact flood insurance. That is a separate course that must be the state and federal training guidelines. The lesson concludes with a thorough discussion of watercraft and boat owners coverage and recreational vehicles.
At the end of the course, is a 65 question exam that will help you comprehend and retain the instruction presented in this course.
